The Creative Process
Here is a 10 photo series simply looking into the day of one of our creative ventures. It begins with a littler spark of imagination and we set out finding just the right materials. We usually find these materials in local thrift stores. The name of our game is modifying clothes that already exist and that are not designed by us. A simple touch can make a piece your own. Most of the clothes we find are extra large, and so little nip and tuck is all it needs. Sometimes and only occasionally do we perform drastic surgeries on the clothing we find if we believe that the material is quite worth the cut. The possibilities are endless when you start designing your own clothes, everything you make is your own; and if you saw a 2000$ dress from the Yves Saint Laurent collection that has a stunning and yet very simple design, why not try and recreate the piece in your own way? If you don’t have the patience or skill to start from scratch, as good way to start is simply through modification. Personally, I started sewing by hand, and quickly realized that a sewing machine was a good investment. Things that used to take me hours can now be done in only a matter of minutes. I have now come to the realization that all clothes must be fitted, unless you’re wearing designer. Most of my clothes our now modified in little ways, that make them look brand new. Before I even told anyone about my little inspirational experiments, no one had any idea. For the purpose of today’s exhibition only minor changes have been made to a shirt, because the result is not something extravagant that we would never wear but rather an everyday piece that we have come to love.
