The Creative Process

The Creative Process
Here is a 10 photo series simply looking into the day of one of our creative ventures. It begins with a littler spark of imagination and we set out finding just the right materials. We usually find these materials in local thrift stores. The name of our game is modifying clothes that already exist and that are not designed by us. A simple touch can make a piece your own. Most of the clothes we find are extra large, and so little nip and tuck is all it needs. Sometimes and only occasionally do we perform drastic surgeries on the clothing we find if we believe that the material is quite worth the cut. The possibilities are endless when you start designing your own clothes, everything you make is your own;  and if you saw a 2000$ dress from the Yves Saint Laurent collection that has a stunning and yet very simple design, why not try and recreate the piece in your own way? If you don’t have the patience or skill to start from scratch, as good way to start is simply through modification. Personally, I started sewing by hand, and quickly realized that a sewing machine was a good investment. Things that used to take me hours can now be done in only a matter of minutes. I have now come to the realization that all clothes must be fitted, unless you’re wearing designer. Most of my clothes our now modified in little ways, that make them look brand new. Before I even told anyone about my little inspirational experiments, no one had any idea. For the purpose of today’s exhibition only minor changes have been made to a shirt, because the result is not something extravagant that we would never wear but rather an everyday piece that we have come to love.

THE HORRORS

Micheal Kors Peep Toe Wedges

I was casually browsing a shoe store that was having a closing sale. I went to the 10$ shoe rack to see what was good, everything looked pretty bad, until I saw a pair of super cute peep toe wedges that looked oddly familiar. For that price, of course I couldn't resist! When I came home I started looking them up, I had find out where I had seen these before. Then I got it! Micheal Kors has the exact same ones!-with a slightly different hue (But for 178.95$ more mind you)

Thrifted Finds

Thrifting is a difficult job but can be very rewarding if you actually take the time to see what the thrift stores have to offer, and actually visualize how certain clothing articles can be modified. Here is a fraction of the stuff that I've  managed to find while out hunting for pretty things!

Leather Flats

Leather Shorts (Mentioned in previous posts)

Very cute little note books, perfect for design drawing! (1$ ea)

Estee Lauder make up case

Very cute leather clutch!

LV imitation, but still very handy as a makeup case!

Modeselektor at Metropolis June 2 2011

Event to come/ Évènement à venir

A little bit of window shopping

Local designer boutique
Today I met up with a good friend of mine simply for a midday walk on the river front, where we did a tad of window shopping. One store was based more on local designers where the other had designer names including Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Lanvin and others. Here are a few images of the day.

WOW. This whole collection just screams DIY. Bleaching, Studding, Tearing and even Safety pinning. They're selling full boxes of safety pins at the dollar store for only one dollar. This one is definitely on the to-do list. If anybody has attempted this please give us a heads up! We would love to showcase your DIY.
